We undertook a comprehensive development management role to breathe new life into a set of dilapidated mill buildings, meticulously restoring them to their former glory. Our successful efforts involved navigating the intricacies of the planning process and coordinating various trades to execute on-site works. This encompassed roof repairs, the replacement and reinstatement of internal floor joists, installation of sustainable aluminium windows, the addition of external signage, and the construction of new cantilevered steel piers.
The project presented unique challenges that required adept stakeholder engagement and management, given the numerous interested parties involved, including the Canal and Rivers Trust, Wigan Council, Local Conservation Officers, and external funders. We also tackled complex logistical hurdles, such as constructing new piers over an active canal, performing high-level roofing work, working from pontoons, and employing traditional construction methods for beam repairs in a setting surrounded by busy canals and main roads.
Our successful completion of this phase has paved the way for Phase 2, which involves the transformation of these mills into a dynamic mix of venues, eateries, offices, artisan spaces, and delis. Watch this space!
